Milk Protein-Free Diet

Following is a list of various food groups and foods for children to avoid if instructed to have a milk protein-free diet.

Milk
Avoid all forms of milk including whole,lowfat, nonfat, or buttermilk, evaporated milk, malted milk, half and half, cream and yogurt

Cheese
Avoid all kinds including cheese dips and spreads, and cottage cheese

Beverages
Avoid chocolate milk, hot cocoa, Ovaltine, milk shakes

Breads/Rolls
Avoid most breads as they contain milk (read labels); bread mixes, pancakes, waffles, soda crackers, zwiebackCerealsMany dry cereals contain milk (read labels)

Desserts/Sweets
Avoid cakes, cookies, custards, puddings, ice cream, sherbets, doughnuts, cake mixes, pie crust made with butter or margarine, pies with cream fillings (coconut, chocolate, cream, custard, lemon, or pumpkin), caramels, chocolate candies

Fats
Avoid butter and margarine, salad dressings

Meats
Avoid hot dogs, luncheon meats, meat loaf and commercial meat patties

Sauces
Any made with butter, margarine, milk or creamSoupsBisques, chowders, cream soups

Vegetables
Au gratin or scalloped potatoes, mashed potatoes, any vegetables with butter or margarine, any creamed vegetables

Please read all labels on any packaged foods. Avoid giving any foods containing the following ingredients:Casein Nonfat milk solids Half and halfCaseinate Lactoglobulin Cow's milk protein Whey Nougat CreamLactalbumin Curds Sodium caseinate
